The graceful mansions of Savannah and Charleston, richly decorated with
sumptuous fabrics and sophisticated home furnishings, provided the
Waverly designers with inspiration for a wonderfully wide-ranging
new collection of decorative fabrics. The lush florals, delicate
all-over designs, varied stripes and shimmering sheers of Southern
Charm, as the line is called, effortlessly blend a feeling of urban
elegance with the pastoral beauty of the Southern countryside.
The
nine prints and five woven designs that comprise the fabric collection
are available in an array of bold colors, such as scarlet, onyx, emerald
and fig—a compelling new blend of purple and chocolate—as
well as softer shades such as sage, ecru and antique gold. The patterns,
too, run the gamut, with designs that will comfortably fit with any lifestyle.
Callaway Plantation, for example, named after an estate in Georgia, is
a dramatic, oversized floral that showcases a garden of peonies and roses
in full bloom. When the flowers are set against a vivid onyx or fig background,
the design takes on a contemporary air, but with a gentler ecru or sage
background, the fabric seems more traditional in feeling.
Sweet Magnolia and Camellia Terrace also focus
on southern blossoms, but the botanical studies are not all floral. Holly
Hill is a print fabric
that features an all-over small leaf in an Arts & Crafts style, while
Wynfield Manor is a reversible woven fabric with a small, elegant vine
design, and Fair Oaks, a fern pattern, is available two ways: printed
onto a slubbed, raw silk-like fabric or delicately woven into a sheer
material.
Several stripe designs, including Wythe Check, a sophisticated
mix of checks and stripes; an iridescent sheer in several soft shades,
and an
unusual toile called Scenic Savannah, which features courting couples
and village scenes from the mid-19th century, complete the collection.
