Child's Tab Top Valance with Traditional Draperies
or Stagecoach Shade
An easy-to-sew, valance is the perfect window topper for either sill
length or full length draperies. A coordinating plaid fabric is chosen
to highlight the edges and tabs of the pretty floral valance. Continue
to coordinate the window with draperies as shown or introduce a two-tone
stagecoach shade for a more tailored treatment - perfect in a young boy's
room.
Tips & Creative Alternatives:
- For a layered look, position all 3 treatments
on one window, allowing the drapes to hang on either side, the shade
to roll up in the center and the valance to top off your design. Hang
the decorative valance rod furthest from the wall and highest of all
hardware. Hang the standard drapery rod slightly closer to the wall
and a few inches lower. Hang the shade mounting board directly on the
wall, right above the frame and lowest of all three.
- To give the valance a more casual and somewhat
feminine look, follow the instructions for changing the simple loop
tabs pictured to bow-tied tabs.
- A stagecoach shade is very simple to make because
it has no cumbersome drawstrings, ring tape or cleats. It is simply
rolled up by hand and held in place with ties. With coordinating fabrics,
the ties are the perfect accompaniment to a tied tab valance.
- Before you shop, measure the outside width and
outside height of the window, measuring from the outside edges of the
moldings. Purchase and mount the rods and board before cutting fabrics
to size.
