Fashion a Fabulous Space with Waverly Fabrics Featuring Exotic Patterns and Dramatic Colors Jealous of the ability of interior decorators to take a handful of bold patterns and turn them, as if by magic, into a striking room setting that makes everyone who enters stop and take notice? Wish you could do it yourself? Well, with the help of the design experts at Waverly, you can. One of the secrets of successful decorating is to balance color and scale and the dramatic sitting room shown here is a perfect example of both. The four prints used in the room are from three different Waverly fabric collections but they work well together because all feature variations of the same shades. And while black may be the background color of the two floral prints, this dramatic hue is what makes the flower and foliage designs really “pop” and turns this space into a showstopper. The starting point for the room’s decor is the chaise which is upholstered in Natural Beauty from the Exotic Destinations collection. The tropical rainforest-inspired, large scale repeat pattern includes parrots and monkeys, richly seeded pomegranates, melons and bunches of bananas in its design, along with exotic flowers blooming on wandering vines, all in shades of red, sage green and golden yellow. The panels of the handsome accent screen, covered in Summer Splendor from the In the Garden collection, echo the exotic theme with oversize, red-hued rhododendrons and tropical orchids and feathery sage green ferns. To balance the large size florals and provide visual interest, two stripes have been introduced. The unadorned design of the ring top drapery panels allows the crisp lines and multiple shades of red, green, gold and black featured in Serene Stripe from In the Garden to shine. Another linear design, Southington Stripe from the Litchfield collection, beautifully sets off the curve of a boudoir pillow. Nestled on the chaise, its straight line design provides just the right note of contrast to the richly patterned fabric of the chaise. The black, red, sage green and golden shades of the pillow’s stripes make it look right at home amidst the tropical splendor of the inviting chair. While the color and pattern of these fabrics form the “bones” of this room’s design scheme, accent notes that also pick up on the color scheme add a graceful finishing touch. Dressmaker details such as the fringe on the screen and the pillow on the chaise and the rope edging on the striped floor pillow and boudoir pillow delicately mix the room’s colors, while the chair table, rope-accented vase, picture frame and even the drapery rod play up the onyx showcased on the fabrics. |
