Color is one of the most effective decorating tools available to create rooms that are comfortable and beautiful. Whatever your decorating style, color has the power to cheer, invigorate, soothe or relax. You can use it to warm up a spare space, supply eye appeal when architectural detail is lacking, or fashion a serene atmosphere in which to unwind. And Waverly fabrics are available in such a wide array of hues and patterns that you’re sure to find just the right mix of shades in your favorite colors to meet all your decorating needs. To illustrate how effective color can be when it comes to creating different moods, we’ve decorated three rooms, each in a different colorway, with Waverly fabrics available at JoAnn fabric stores and through the JoAnn catalog. As you study these varied spaces you’ll find that some of the patterns have been repeated in more than one room, but notice how different each looks in different hues. Oakville Stripe, for example, is a handsome textured fabric with distinct ridges running across stripes in varied widths. At a glance you might not realize that the blue and white stripe on the oval chair backs, arm pads and table runner in the dining room is the same design as the upholstery on the cool-colored chair and tailored dust ruffle in the bedroom or the inviting, oversized ottoman in the crimson living room. The dining room shown above is a cheerful space designed to encourage spirited gatherings around the oft-used dining table. To foster a convivial mood, a mix of blue and white patterns sets up a lively background. The oval dining chairs, for example, pair a stripe (Oakville Stripe - Porcelain) with a charming Jacobean-inspired floral (Felicite - Indigo), while the vivid floral drapery panels (Ballad Bouquet - Indigo) are topped with another stripe (Etienne - Indigo). The comfortable upholstered high-back chairs stand out in a crisp navy and white lattice design (Garden Lattice - Indigo). To add still more visual interest to the space, the lower portion of the walls have been covered with the reverse side of the fabric so that the lattice stands out in bold navy against a crisp white ground. The coolly elegant bedroom seen here is a perfect place to unwind and relax at the end of the day. The pale but sophisticated, soothing color scheme is built around calming shades of ivory, cream, stone, mushroom, taupe, pale blue and soft turquoise. And though the colors may be understated, the room is anything but bland thanks to the artful blending of beautifully designed patterns and textured fabrics. The handsome draperies, for instance, feature a lustrous jacquard, Chantal - Vapeur, trimmed with a wide textured cuff of Pebble- Mushroom. The bed is a masterful mix of patterns: The paisley coverlet, Paddock Shawl - Mineral, reverses to a silky twill, Serene Stripe – Mineral; neatly folded on the coverlet is a charming duvet in Felicite – Mineral (this same pattern, in darker indigo, was used on the wood framed dining chairs in the blue and white dining room); the tailored dust ruffle is fashioned from the ribbed Oakville Stripe – Mineral, and the collection of pillow shams includes a couple of additional fabrics for still more eye appeal. The crimson living room is a warm, inviting space where one can be comfortable alone, curled up with a good book, or entertaining a crowd. For comfort on your own, a luxurious chaise is upholstered in exotic Byzance – Antique, with its red paisley pattern played against a creamy beige. The sizable sofa beautifully shows off Karaj Paisley – Spice, a dramatic fabric with golden paisley motifs gleaming against a rich red ground. Two fabrics seen in softer shades in the bedroom show up here in a more dramatic hue: The oversize ottoman is in Oakville Stripe – Cinnabar, while another upholstered chair is covered in Pebble – Chili. And two versions of the same fabric, Rosabella, a distinctive silk-like textile with delicately embroidered flowering vines set against an iridescent shimmering ground, are used here as well. The graceful drapery panels in creamy latte are a handsome contrast to the deep hued walls, while the gently gathered tableskirt casts a reddish-gold glow in cinnabar. Whether your preference is for a classic or contemporary look, in vibrant shades or soothing pastels, color makes spaces truly come alive and Waverly gives you the fabrics to make it happen.
